The Government has now decided on the future of local government across Lincolnshire.
Our constituency will fall within the new single layer ‘Rural Lincolnshire’ unitary council resulting in the abolition of South and North Kesteven District Councils and Lincolnshire County Council. This new council will be responsible for running all local services, from bin collection to social care and housing. Meanwhile, an expanded Lincoln city area, North and North East Lincolnshire will form three additional and separate unitary council areas.
For many in our constituency, this proposal selected by the Government was not their preference, with many having concerns such as the appearance of the Government heavily favouring Lincoln over market towns and villages.
At the moment, no changes will take place and residents looking for local support should still contact our district council and county council. However, next May, local elections are set to take place to elect shadow ‘Rural Lincolnshire’ Councillors, who will then assume responsibility and form the new unitary council from April 2028.
