Happy World Book Day 2025!
Reading is one of the biggest indicators of a child’s future success, and it is a wonderful hobby that develops cognitive skills and stretches the imagination. To celebrate World Book Day, children across Lincolnshire will head to school today dressed as their favourite book characters!
English primary school children have claimed the crown as the best readers in the Western world, which is great news for children and for our country’s future if this remains the case. While we should be proud of our children for reading so well, only 1 in 3 children say they enjoy reading, so there is more we can do to encourage a love of reading beyond school.
World Book Day helps children reclaim a love of reading by ensuring every child has access to a book of their choice through their £1 book vouchers. All children across the UK will receive one of these vouchers, where they can choose their favourite book, empowering them to help make reading fun.
Everyone deserves the enjoyment of reading, and it is great to see that we have so many library services here in Grantham and Bourne. Libraries provide an important space for local communities, and Lincolnshire County Council’s Mobile Book Service ensures that even the most rural residents get regular access to library services.
